Songfic: When Christmas Comes to Town
I'm wishing on a star
And trying to believe
That even though it's far
He'll find me Christmas Eve
I guess that Santa's busy
'Cause he's never come around
I think of him
When Christmas comes to town
Vin came aaround the courner of the barn in time to hear Buck ask, "What are you wantting Santa Claus to bring you for Christmas JD?"
Coming up next to his little cousin, Vin glared up at Buck. "That was mean Mr. Buck, asking JD that. Getting his hopes up only to be let down."
Frowning at what Vin said, Buck replied, "Vin, JD may not get everything he asks for. But Santa will make sure he'll get at least one or maybe two things he wanted."
"Why would he now, when he never did before, Mr. Buck?" Vin asked. Then, taking JD by the hand, took him along to help get wood to take inside the cabin.
The best time of the year
When everyone comes home
With all this Christmas cheer
It's hard to be alone
Putting up the Christmas tree
With friends who come around
It's so much fun
When Christmas comes to town
Chris was filled in when he came back from town by Buck, of the boys never having Santa before. The two decided to make this the best Christmas they could, and that a special trip into town tommorow was called for so they could tell the others and see if they wanted to join in making Christmas for the boys, knowing without a doubt they would.
The next morning a reason was given why they need to go to town. And after leaving the boys to play with Billy at Mary's. Chris and Buck filled in the other three. The five men put all their ideas together and came up with a plan.
Presents for the children
Wrapped in red and green
All the things I've heard about
But never really seen
No one will be sleeping on the night of Christmas Eve
Hoping Santa's on his way
Christmas Eve was spent in a whirl wind. With two dads taking two sons out and cutting down a tree. They brought it home and decorated it with three uncles who were there waitting for their return. Miss Nettie stopped by with a basket filled with gingerbread cookies and a present to go under there new tree. The evening was spent tucking two tired little boys into bed as they heard the sound of bells and cluttering on the roof, and Chris saying they best get to sleep since it sounded like Santa was there.
When Santa's sleigh bells ring
I listen all around
The herald angels sing
I never hear a sound
And all the dreams of children
Once lost will all be found
That's all I want
When Christmas comes to town
As dawn was breaking, Chris and Buck got up and went to start the stove to make coffee and breakfast. They saw the boys' beds empty as they passed. Looking at the tree they saw the presnts hadn't been touched. Out the door the two men went, stopping as they found their missing sons and listening to what Vin was telling JD as he pointed to the roof.
"Look, JD, it was Santa that came. That's sleigh tracks up there. And those funny markings in front of it must have been his rein deer. He didn't forget us this year."
"He sure didn't Vin, and I don't think he ever will again," assured his dad with a promising grin.
