Remember

by Marian

I heard you talking. I heard you say, "He won't remember; he never remembers."

+ + +

But, I do remember. I remember the first time I saw you. I remember when you tried to best me in knife-throwing. I remember the first time I saw you in a dress, the smile on your face when you looked at me. I remember the look on your face as you tripped on your dress, the look of despair and embarrassment. And I remember the way you punched Buck as you turned and ran.

+ + +

I remember the first time we went fishin', the whoppers we told each other about the weather. I remember you pushing me in the pond, and I remember the look on your face as I pulled you in.

The kiss that almost was…

Oh, how I remember it all.

+ + +

I remember the pain in your eyes when you walked in the livery and found me with Mattie. I remember how much I wanted to tell you how sorry I was. And thinking how I wouldn't get the chance. I remember comin' to and finding you by my side, seeing the love in your eyes.

+ + +

I remember the look on your face when Peter Nichols made a pass at you; the hurt that came over me seeing you so taken with him, I remember how jealous I was that you wore a dress for him.

But, I remember how you came running when I needed you. I remember it all right.

+ + +

I remember our first dance, our first kiss, the taste of your sweet lips on mine, the way you smelled of a morning breeze.

I remember how beautiful you looked that night, the way your eyes shined as I gazed into them. I remember the warmth of your hand in mine, your soft, gentle touch. And the look of your soft hair as it lay, draped across your shoulders.

Oh yeah, I remember it all.

+ + +

But, most of all, I want to remember your face as I ask you… to be my lover, the mother of my children, my wife. I love you and I want to spend the rest of my life with you.

Casey… will you marry me?"
