To the casual observer one would think a hurricane had hit Chris Larabee's living room or maybe someone had ransacked the place. But in reality Chris was in the middle of putting up Christmas decorations. This was the first Christmas since his wife and son died that he had wanted to decorate for the holidays.

Truth be told, in the past he usually celebrated the holidays with a case of beer and an assortment of football games and old western movies. But this year was different. He invited his six friends over to his place for Christmas dinner and thought it would be nice if his place at least looked a little festive.

Christmas music played in the background as Chris took a much needed break, taking a seat in his leather chair he reached for his mug, sipping his hot chocolate as the song changed.
Away in a manger, no crib for His bed,
The little Lord Jesus lay down his sweet head.
The stars in the sky looked down where He lay
The little Lord Jesus, asleep on the hay.

A soft smile tugged at the corner of his lips as Sarah's favorite Christmas song started. She always loved this song, thought Chris, as he remembered the time the song had brought tears to her eyes. He had returned home from work and found her in their living room crying and he immediately thought the worst. She just smiled that sweet smile of hers and replied, "It's just hormones . . . it happens to a woman when she's expecting. . ." He froze after her soft announcement as he repeated, "Expectin'?" A glowing smile covered Sarah's face as she nodded in the affirmative. "You're gonna be a daddy," she said softly before he wrapped his arms around her in a loving embrace. . .

The cattle are lowing, the poor Baby wakes,
But little Lord Jesus, no crying He makes;
I love Thee, Lord Jesus, look down from the sky
And stay by my cradle till morning is nigh.

Then there was the time when he watched from the bedroom doorway as Sarah feed Adam while softly singing 'Away in the Manager' to him. It was a beautiful sight . . . one that touched his heart and soul. And a memory he would never forget. . .

Be near me, Lord Jesus, I ask Thee to stay,
Close by me forever, and love me, I pray!
Bless all the dear children in Thy tender care
And take us to heaven, to Live with Thee there.

As the song drifted to a close, Chris closed his eyes and whispered, "I miss you Sarah. . ."

A succession of five knocks followed by the front door opening brought Chris quickly to the present as his six friends walked into his house.

"Looks like we got here just in the nick of time," commented Buck as the men inspected the mess.

"Yeah, you definitely did," replied Chris while thinking in more ways than one.
