Christmas Star

by Amelia

Where are you Christmas?
Where did you go?

As he heard the song play on, he remembered wondering that very thing, that first Christmas his mother was gone. And all the ones since that day.

Struggling to survive, from the streets, from hunger, and from the cold feeling of being so alone.

Where are you Christmas?
Where did you go?

Feeling that it, too, had abandoned him, forgetting that he was still there. No presents, no greeting, no warm hug with happy wishes or love.

Lying on that night each year looking up at the bright star that always shined, wishing on it with his whole heart, to please be remembered.

Where are you Christmas?
Where did you go?

He didn't ask for himself that year, but for his new brother that he had found. Like him alone in the world, but younger and needing him to protect and save him. He scurried through the streets and behind all the stores, finding in one trash barrel two treasures for his friend, making sure Christmas at least would not forget him.

Where are you Christmas?
Where did you go?

You found me finally this year, a home for us both and a dad all my own. With uncles filled with laughter, and dogs and my horse I love so true. Belonging and wanted it feels so warm lying here with my dad looking up at the star that always shined so bright on this night and finally I knew...

I know where you are Christmas
You did not leave.

You were there everyday in my heart never leaving me all alone. You were there when I found my brother and there to send them to save and claim us as their own. Just as you're here now. Thank you for always remembering me.

"You're awfully quiet there, cowboy. What are you thinking about?" Chris asked the son of his heart, when he noticed the expressions on the young face.

"I's just saying thank you to the Christmas Star, Vin smiled, his gaze leaving the shining star in the night sky to look at his dad with all the love that he felt.

The End
