The Sons of Anarchy is an outlaw motorcycle club. There are a number of charters in the Western United States. The founding charter is in Charming, California. The official name of the Charming charter is Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club, Redwood Original. They refer to themselves by the acronym, "SAMCRO." Only the Charming charter of the Club is known as SAMCRO. John Teller and Piney Winston were the co-founders of SAMCRO. Clay Morrow and Piney are the last of the "Redwood Original 9"

Charming is in San Joaquin County, California. It is almost 23 square miles. The current population is about 15,000 people. Charming is in roughly 50 miles from Oakland and San Jose and 30 miles from Stockton and Lodi. SAMCRO controls Charming through close community relationships, bribery, and violent intimidation.

Club members work regular jobs in local industries, but their primary source of income is gun-running. Their primary customer is the African-American drug gang, the "One-Niners." The One-Niners' chief rival is the Hispanic motorcycle club, the Mayans. There is bad blood between SAMCRO and the Mayans.

SAMCRO keeps drugs, prostitution and gambling out of Charming. The white supremacist Nords gang wants to sell methamphetamines in Charming. The Sons of Anarchy are more diverse and tolerant then most motorcycle clubs. They despise the Nords' philosophy.

John's widow Gemma married Clay, the current president of SAMCRO. Gemma's son Jax is the vice president of the club. Jax's ex-wife Wendy gave birth to a premature son, Abel.

The Four Corners Cowboys were founded by Chris Larabee, Buck Wilmington, Nathan Jackson and Josiah Sanchez, who is Clay's younger cousin. The Sons of Anarchy patched the Cowboys over five years ago. They refer to themselves as "the FCC," which stands for "Four Corners Charter." Four Corners is located southeast of Redding, California. The town roughly mirrors Charming with about 15,000 residents scattered over approximately 25 square miles. The Four Corners charter also uses the members' close ties to the community, bribery, and violent intimidation to control the town.

Four Corners' members also work day jobs. Chris and Buck co-own a custom woodworking shop. JD Dunne, a club prospect works for them. The club's primary income is from marijuana that they grow and sell. Like SAMCRO, the club keeps illegal activity out of "their" town. The FCC is diverse with a black member, and two Native American members, one of whom is openly gay.

Four Corners primary rivalry is with the Royals, headed by Guy Royal and Stuart James. The Royals are a ruthless motorcycle club who sell guns and hard drugs. They dabble in human trafficking. They want to move into Four Corners. Only the FCC stands between the Royals and Four Corners.

Clarence "Clay" Morrow is the president of SAMCRO. Gemma is his old lady. Jax is supposedly his stepson, but he is likely Jax's real father.

Jackson "Jax" Teller is SAMCRO's vice-president. He recently discovered his late father's journals. He is having doubts about the club's direction.

Robert "Bobby" Munson is SAMCRO's treasurer. He does Elvis impersonations in Lake Tahoe. Munson is Jewish. He is a demolition and explosives expert.

Alex "Tig" Trager is SAMCRO's sergeant-at-arms. He is particularly close to Clay, and is one of the club's more violent members.

Filip "Chibs" Telford is a member of SAMCRO. He is originally from Scotland.

Piermont "Piney" Winston is a co-founder of SAMCRO. Opie is his son. He is a veteran of the Vietnam War.

Harry "Opie" Winston is a member of SAMCRO. He spent five years in prison. Jax is his best friend. His wife, Donna wants him to leave the club.

Jean Carlos "Juice" Ortiz is the club's hacker and intelligence officer.

Kip "Half-Sack" Epps is a prospect. His nickname stems from the fact he lost a testicle during the Iraq War. He was the junior lightweight champion of the armed forces boxing competition and is a surprisingly formidable fighter. He has a huge crush on Cherry.

Big Otto is a member of the club who is currently incarcerated in state prison. Luanne is his old lady.

Chris Larabee is the president of the Four Corners charter. His wife and son died in an unsolved arson fire. Chris is one of the founders of the Four Corners charter.

Buck Wilmington is the vice president and Chris Larabee's oldest friend. He persuaded Chris to stay in Charming, instead of returning home on the night Chris's family was killed. He is one of the founders. Buck is kind-hearted and loves the ladies. He is completely loyal to the club and to Chris.

Josiah Sanchez is the sergeant-at-arms. He is Clay's cousin and the third of the four founders. Josiah is calm and thoughtful, unless he is on an alcoholic binge. Josiah is a fearsome fighter when he is drunk or provoked.

Nathan Jackson is the last of the four original members. He graduated from medical school. He was kicked out of his internship. He is the club's medic. He is the club's executive officer.

Ezra Standish is the treasurer. He is more educated than the others are. Ezra has a love for the finer things in life that is unshared by most of the members.

Judge Orrin Travis is the judge for the circuit court in Four Corners. He is an honorary member of the Four Corners charter. His son Stephen was a member of the club until he was murdered by the Royals. Judge Travis is highly respected by the group for his wisdom and his fairness. He is often sought out to arbitrate disputes.

Raphael Cordova de Martinez is a member of the club.

Eli Joe Banks is a member of the club. He has a mean streak.

Marshall Yates is a member of the club. He is Eli Joe's closest friend and shares his mean streak.

Yosemite is a member of the club. He is a mechanic at Nettie Well's shop. He is good friends with Judge Travis.

Chanu Kane is a member of the club. He is native American. His father, Kojay is a chief of the Paiute Tribe. Chanu has been dating a woman in secret.

Rory Selkirk is Chanu's second cousin. He is openly gay.

JD Dunne is a club prospect. Buck has taken a liking to him and taken JD under his wing. JD is a computer expert. He works at Chris and Buck's shop.

Vin Tanner is an ex-hooker who owes SAMCRO a debt. He is working his debt off in Four Corners.

Rain Jackson is Nathan's wife. She often hosts dinners for the club. Rain is expecting their first child.

Mary Travis is the widow of Stephen Travis. She is the editor of the local newspaper. She is the mother of Judge Travis's only grandson. Mary was a sweet butt before she married Stephen. She has an unrequited passion for Chris Larabee.

Nettie Wells owns the motorcycle shop where the club members buy their bikes and have them repaired.

Gloria Potter runs the tattoo parlor where the club members have their tattoos inked.

Casey Wells is Nettie Wells' niece. She is a tomboy, who has a crush on JD.

Maude Standish is Ezra's mother. She is a grifter who has been married five times. Josiah is smitten with her.

Lydia Duncan is a sweet butt. She is sexually adventurous and enjoys sex with men and women. She is an exhibitionist.

Inez Recillos is a sweet butt. She and Lydia are good friends. They often engage in threesomes or group sex with the members of the club.

Gemma Teller Morrow is the wife of Clay Morrow and the widow of John Teller. She is Jax's mother. Gemma is as tough as nails and extremely protective of her son and SAMCRO.

Dr. Tara Knowles was Jax's high-school sweetheart. She is a pediatric resident at the local hospital. She was stalked by her ex-boyfriend, Joshua Kohn, an ATF agent. She shot him in the stomach in self-defense and called Jax, who shot him to death.

Wendy Case is Jax Teller's ex-wife and the mother of his son, Abel, who was born prematurely due to her methamphetamine use during her pregnancy. Gemma gave her a syringe full of meth with the instructions to commit suicide via overdose, while she was recovering from Abel's birth. Wendy overdosed and nearly died. She is currently in rehab.

Donna Winston is Opie's wife and the mother of his two children. She wants Opie to leave the club.

Luanne is Big Otto's wife, a former porn actress. She and Gemma are friends.

Cherry is a sweet butt of the Devil's Tribe Motorcycle Club. She slept with Clay but has feelings for Half-Sack. Cherry incurred Gemma's wrath when she showed up in Charming and Gemma hit her in the face with a skateboard. Cherry and Gemma patched things up and Cherry is currently dating Half-Sack exclusively.
