Seven Little Peacekeepers

by Ness Ayton

The explanation for this little bit of froth is probably longer than the froth itself! The drabble challenge to use 7 colours and 7 numbers was set by Phyllis, I think it was, and passed onto the UK Mag7 forum. My first attempt, which was a brainteaser, was not looked at too favourably; however, I couldn't get the idea out of my mind and ended up with this offering. It was forwarded to Phyllis and I did get some nice feedback from her site suggesting that it ought to be sent to Blackraptor. So here it is. It's not strictly a drabble; it's doggerel and more than 100 words! And, strangely enough, I still don't own them and never will.

Seven little peacekeepers dressed all in red
Ezra moaned and grumbled and stayed at home in bed.

Six little peacekeepers dressed all in yellow
Buck chased a fancy girl and met her "other" fellow.

Five little peacekeepers dressed all in green
Nathan disappeared inside a mine and never more was seen.

Four little peacekeepers dressed all in white
Josiah stayed to pray awhile when he saw the light.

Three little peacekeepers dressed all in blue
JD got caught short and dashed off to the loo.

Two little peacekeepers dressed all in brown
Vin couldn't stand the crowds and 'eaded outta town.

One little peacekeeper dressed all in black
Rode off into the sunset and never more rode back.

Just in case you were wondering "loo" is slang for the bathroom!
